Scratchboard - what is it?!

Drawing a picture in the sand with a stick is a perfect illustration of what happens when you do scratchwork. Most of this artwork is done with various exacto blades, scalpels, and sandpaper. My favourite tool to use is plain old fine grade sandpaper, but even various things one can find around the house have come in handy - nail files, buffer blocks (sorry Mom!), etc. The boards are basically made up of a layer of black ink sprayed onto inflexible masonite, or 'clayboard'. For a little more explanation, you can click on this excerpt is from the Indianapolis Star, Friday March 6th '09, covering a recent scratchboard show that I was lucky enough to be a part of. It was a great experience getting to display some of my pieces alongside amazing artwork from incredible artists from around the world that I have met through an online art forum.

My book...

I created this book last year as a sort of portfolio with some of my published works. It also includes some photos and memories of our time in New Zealand and our experiences here. My intention is to publish a more comprehensive portfolio specifically dedicated to my art in the next year or two, but these things take time. In the meantime, here is a preview to the first book that I completed. You can order a copy directly from www.blurb.com if you're interested.
